English for Speakers of Other Languages Esol Grade Is Language Arts

This certificate is jointly administered by the Office of Cross-Cultural Education and NHTI Education department and provides students with a strong introduction to ESOL teaching. This programme is for:

  • Those interested in working in programs that require experience working with ESOL learners
  • Para-educators looking to enhance their skills and motion toward a certification in ESOL
  • Teachers seeking professional development skills related to working with ESOL learners
  • People interested in broadening their knowledge, agreement, and appreciation of cultural and
    linguistic differences, language acquisition, literacy evolution, and reflective instructional practices
  • People interested developing and using instructional and assessment strategies and materials that raise the achievement levels and increase the academic success of ESOL learners

This programme is financial assistance-eligible.

Interested applicants must agree a bachelor's degree and pass a criminal background check.

  • Raise the student's abilities to develop and use instructional, and cess strategies and materials that raise the achievement levels and increment the academic success of English linguistic communication learners.

This plan volition set up students to piece of work in the ESOL community. While the document plan in ESOL does not straight lead to N.H. licensure in teaching ESOL, those students pursuing licensure may apply coursework toward the Instructor Education Conversion Program in ESOL.

    Kelly Moore Dunn joined NHTI's faculty in 2003. She is the Department Chair of Education, the Manager of the Teacher Teaching Conversion Program and the Center for Educational Excellence. She earned her B.Due south. from the College of St. Rose, her One thousand.Ed. in Learning and Linguistic communication Disorders from Notre Dame College, and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Adult Instruction, from Nova Southeastern University. She has more 35 years' feel as an educator in Thousand-12 schools and higher and university. She teaches courses in special education and special teaching methods and supervises student teachers and practicum students. She serves on the Council for Teacher Educational activity for the State Board of Instruction. Her professional person interests include special didactics, learning disabilities, cognitive coaching, instructor preparation, cultures of dignity, and developed learning.

    Dawn Higgins is an academic advisor at NHTI and works direct with English Linguistic communication Learners at NHTI. Instructing and advising second language adults in higher education for 19 years, she is also a certified K-12 ESOL teacher in the Land of NH and linguistics instructor for NHTI's mail-bac ESOL Instructor Educational activity Conversion Program. Dawn is the co-manager of the ESOL Teacher Teaching Conversion Program. The populations she serves at NHTI currently are New Americans and other new immigrants' representative of more than l native languages and countries of origin. Dawn earned her undergraduate caste in French and English and her Master's degree in English language Literature from the Academy of New Hampshire and the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France.

    Cynthia has been in education since 1998. She has taught in educator preparation at the Academy of New Hampshire and Saint Anselm College before coming to NHTI. Cynthia is the coordinator of clinical practice for the education section at NHTI and professor of education. In the past, Cynthia was an elementary and middle school teacher and an assistant centre school master. She loves all aspects of education, but areas of professional involvement include mentoring new teachers, supporting students with disabilities, student assessment, and special education. Cynthia earned her B.South and K.Ed from Notre Matriarch College and is completing her doctoral dissertation through Northeastern University.

    Amy Gillam has been an Adjunct Professor at NHTI since 2008. She teaches the Instructional Engineering science form which is focuses on learning how to integrate technology into the classroom. She is currently a Estimator Engineering science Educator in the public-school system where she teaches computer engineering science classes and collaborates with colleagues to facilitate technology integration in the classroom. In the past she has also taught second form, middle school Spanish, and middle school computer technology. In improver to didactics, she presents at workshops and seminars on current educational technology topics.

    P. Alan Pardy has been an adjunct instructor at NHTI since 2011, teaching ED 201/TECP 61. Alan earned his Bachelor of Scientific discipline and Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of New Hampshire. He earned a Doctorate in Educational activity at Boston University, concentrating on special teaching and educational assistants. He has worked in education for over 50 years, as a classroom teacher, director of special education, and, until he retired in 2017, Executive Director of the NH Association of Special Education Administrators, a land-wide organisation of public and private special pedagogy directors. Alan has also taught courses as an adjunct at Rivier College (University), Granite Country College, and Antioch University New England. His professional person interests include leadership competencies, inter-bureau collaboration, and integrating "soft skills" into K-12 educational activity and teacher training.

    Susan Thou. Peterson has degrees in Early Childhood Instruction; Counseling; and College Educational activity, Leadership, and Developed Learning. She holds a NH Early Babyhood Master Professional person from the NH Dept of Wellness and Human Services. She has taught early childhood teaching classes in college education for the past 20 years and is certified by the NH chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) as a professional trainer. She is an adjunct kinesthesia member at Granite State Higher and NHTI, where she teaches pedagogy courses and provides supervision and mentoring to pre-service and new teachers. Dr. Peterson is certified past the Center for Instructor Effectiveness and authorized to conduct "Time to Teach" seminars in Classroom Management. Dr. Peterson is the Director of Riverstone Educational Consultants providing professional person development and back up in training, coaching, mentoring, and program evaluation to schools and educational organizations.

    Annie Wallace joined NHTI as a TCEP adjunct faculty member in 2007 as the center and secondary mathematics methods instructor. She earned her B.B.A. in Bookkeeping from the Academy of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1981, her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Gordon College, Wenham, MA in 2005, and a Post-Masters Graduate Certificate in Curriculum and Educational activity from the University of New England, Portland, ME in 2016. She has more than than fifteen years' experience as an educator. Currently she is the Mathematics Educational Consultant for the NH Section of education. She has served on Governor Hassan'south NH STEM Teaching Task Force and as a fellow member of Advisory Group for the NH Quantitative Literacy Project in the development of NH's Pre-1000 -16 Numeracy Action Plan for the 21st Century and currently serves every bit president on the New Hampshire Teachers of Mathematics (NHTM) board and as vice-chair on the Professional Standards Board for the Country Lath of Education. Her professional interests include equity and admission in mathematics for all students, teacher training with a focus in mathematics for all levels, math curriculum and assessment, and in the development of math coaching.

    Debbie has been an educator for 35 years, with experience as a high schoolhouse English teacher, section chair, assistant principal, principal, instructional supervisor and assistant superintendent for curriculum. She is an offshoot faculty member at NHTI, and has taught at Rivier College, and UMass Lowell and has chaired the NH Council for Teacher Education. She enjoys working with new educators to help set them to face the realities of today's classrooms and developed a formal mentoring program for the Merrimack Schoolhouse District. She was honored to serve as the NH Teacher of the Yr in 1996. Debbie has a B.A. in English Education from Merrimack Higher, a G.A. in English from Duquesne University, and a CAGS from Rivier College.

    Heather is an adjunct professor in the Education Section. Before joining NHTI, Heather worked as an unproblematic reading and writing specialist and special education teacher. She as well has experience education math and science at the loftier school and college levels. She earned her BA in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado at Bedrock, her MEd as a Reading and Writing Specialist from Plymouth Country University, and her Ed.D. in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University.  Heather teaches teaching and math courses at NHTI. Her professional interests include reading and math intervention, assistive applied science, and cognitive learning strategies. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities in the beautiful lakes and mountains of New Hampshire such equally hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, and skiing.
